Low Carb Hot Chocolate

Living in a cold climate makes having a low carb no-sugar added version of Hot Chocolate a must.  It hits the spot on a cold wintery night.  And even a chilly Fall morning.  I know it's old school but I am one happy gal when the house is quiet and I am sitting down in the morning reading the local newspaper and drinking a cup of chocolately creamy goodness.
Doing a ketogenic/low carb diet doesn't mean that you have to go without.  But, often, we do have to put in a bit of extra time to give our favorite foods a low carb makeover if we want to sustain a low carb way of living and eating. But as I always say, "I have never once regretted making my health a priority".
I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do.

Yield: 1 serving

Low Carb Hot Chocolate

A sweet, sugar-free, satisfying low carb hot chocolate drink

ingredients:

  • 1 c. Water
  • 1 1/2 TBLS. Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1/2 tsp. Pure Vanilla Extract
  • Several Drops of Liquid No Sugar Low Carb Sweetener
  • 1/4 c. Organic Heavy Whipping Cream
  • Dash of Salt
  • Cinnamon, Cayenne Pepper & Shaved Sugar-Free Chocolate Bar for topping - Optional
  • Whipped Cream for topping optional-find the recipe here

instructions:

  1. Pour water into medium saucepan and bring to a boil.
  2. Turn heat to low.  Add cocoa powder, vanilla,  sweetener, and salt. With a handheld milk frother carefully whip until cocoa is well incorporated into the water.
  3. Stir in heavy cream and heat until the hot chocolate becomes hot again.  Adding in cold heavy cream will bring down the temperature of the hot chocolate so you may need to heat it up a bit before serving.
  4. Taste for sweetness and add more to your liking.
  5. Pour into mug and enjoy!
