Blue Cheese Ranch Dressing

A great low carb wedge salad isn't just something that you have to go to a steakhouse to enjoy.  Making one at home is incredibly simple.  Yes, even that yummy balsamic drizzle can be made without adding sugar.  Any balsamic glaze that you will buy in a grocery store will be loaded with sugar.  So why not make it at home?

My homemade Blue Cheese Ranch dressing is so incredibly delish that my family and I won't eat a wedge salad at home any other way.  The dry ranch dressing mix is something that I make a double batch of so that I never run out.  The dressing also doubles as a dip.  Eaten, either way, it's lip-smacking finger-licking good!

The recipe will focus on the Blue Cheese Ranch Dressing.  The salad is basic.  Just a head of iceburg lettuce cut into fourths and topped with a bit of crumbled blue cheese, diced tomatoes, slivered red onions, cooked bacon and a little drizzle of the balsamic glaze.  For the balsamic glaze just place 1/3 cup of Balsamic Vinegar into a small nonstick skillet and simmer and stir until it thickens slightly.  Remove from heat.  As it cools it will thicken up.  And that's it!  Balsamic Drizzle (Glaze) that only takes minutes.  It will make enough for 4 wedge salads.

How to cook Blue Cheese Ranch Dressing

Dry Ranch Dressing Mix
  1. Place all ingredients in an airtight container and shake until everything is mixed together.  Store in a cool dark place.  I store it right with my other dried herbs and seasonings.

  1. Place all ingredients into a medium mixing bowl and stir together until all ingredients are well incorporated.  Refrigerate overnight.  Then enjoy as a salad dressing or dip.  If it's too thick for your liking as a dressing just add more heavy cream.  Or you can even add beef or chicken stock.  All will work just fine.  But if you do add more liquid then you may need to adjust the seasonings just a bit.
